FIRST ANNIVERSARY: A Weekend Getaway at Tagaytay City

*LATE POST*

February 14-15, 2015

(Yes, a year overdue lol. I wrote this days after our first anniv but I just published it this year due to the reason that I've been inactive in Blogger since then. My apologies.)

We didn't really plan 'that much' for our weekend getaway. We just wanted to get off from Manila, get rid of the stress that work brought us, and unwind somewhere near the area. I did a little bit of research until I stumbled upon Tagaytay City.

Why Tagaytay? As we all know, it is one of the country's most popular tourist destinations because of its chilly climate and of course, the outstanding scenery of the iconic Taal Lake. The place is also close to Manila - allowing an easy escape from the big busy city.

On Saturday morning, 14th of February (Happy V-Day!), he fetched me in our house. We rode a cab going to Starmall Edsa-Shaw because the terminal to Tagaytay is located there. We rode a Toyota Hiace Van and paid 180php for the fare.

Say hello to my handsome travel buddy!! ♥

The departure was around 9am and we arrived at Tagaytay City proper at around lunch time (there was a traffic due to high density of tourists prolly because it's Valentine's day). So instead of going straightly to the hotel, we changed our plans and decided to dine for lunch first at Leslie's Restaurant - one of the highly recommended restaurants for people visiting the area.

Of course, our favorite main dish - Beef Kare-Kare

 Yummy Lechooooon!!! *drools*

So after having our scrumptious lunch, we took the advantage of taking pictures because of the restaurant's view of the Taal Volcano. And when I say "we took the advantage", we really took the advantage. lol Here are some proof:

                                                                  The Taal Volcano ♥

Picture taking's done!!! Time to go to our accommodation. ☺

As I was searching for a not-so-expensive hotel in Tagaytay, I tried looking in Metrodeal. I haven't bought anything yet from the said site but I took the risk (knowing that we only have few days left before our anniv). I was hooked by this hotel named The Mediterranean House because of its affordable price. When I checked their website, I found out that the facilities were good. I also read some reviews and a lot were positive ones. That's why I called the hotel immediately and after a minute or two, we're already booked! ☺

About The Mediterranean House

This place is ideal if you really want a tranquil spot. It's kinda far in the city itself because this is already part of Nasugbu, Batangas. According to them, the place is just a 20-minute drive from Skyranch, Tagaytay.

                                                Entrance of The Mediterranean House

To be honest, I didn't expect that much when I saw the facade. The only thing that entered my mind during that time was, "Ooohhh, eto na yun?". Yup, I was such a meanie that time but I've proven myself wrong. There's so much more inside the hotel.

                                                              Poolside Area with Jacuzzi

Too bad I wasn't able to take pictures of every area/facilities. :( Anyway, you can refer to their website (linked above and detailed below) and I can assure you that what you see is what you get. ☺

Btw, below are our FREE breakfast c/o the hotel.

                                                                        Asian Breakfast

                                                                     Continental Breakfast

Likes and Dislikes about The Mediterranean House based on my observation:

Dislikes
  • The room that we've booked wasn't big enough for 2
  • There was a build up of water inside the bathroom (due to poor drainage)
  • Unusual setup of room. Normally the television sets are placed at the foot of the bed, but here it was placed at the side of the bed (it's kinda hard to watch lol)

Likes
  • The staff and the owner were really polite and courteous. They really attended to our concerns immediately. (I would like to commend Ms. Annalyn, the owner and Sir Nelson, the staff who accommodated us) ☺
  • Stable Wifi connection :p
  • Ambience
  • Cozy place
  • Good food!! ☺☺☺

Overall, we had a very comfortable stay there. A staycation that what we just needed - to relax, unwind, and celebrate our first anniversary. ♥

So going on....

After we both took nap, we decided to go out during the late afternoon. We made our way to the newest theme park in Luzon - the Sky Ranch. The entrance fee is just 100php (exclusive of the rides). Too bad we didn't ride the Sky Eye - the tallest ferris wheel in the country. :( Anyway, here are our photos inside. ☺

Thank you for my phone's TimerCam :))
My forehead says, "Hiiiii!" lol

Since it was raining during that night and the wind was sooooo strong (that it blew my bangs off lol), we decided to have some Bulalo. As people say, your vacation in Tagaytay wouldn't be complete without dining in a bulalo resto, that's why we came off to Bulalo Point. It is located along the stretch of Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway, just a few blocks from Casino Filipino.
Capping off our night with this SPECIAL BULALOOOOOOOO ♥

Considering that we just had an overnight weekend getaway, we woke up so early the next morning so that we could still grab the chance to seize our last day.

While he was on the bathroom having his early morning rituals, I took the chance to fix the bed sheets and arrange my simple presents for him. Since he loves red velvet so much, I bought him a Red Velvet TimTam chocolate, Red Velvet cake, and Red Velvet crinkles. ♥ Plus!! I bought us a some sort of "couple" shirt with our initials on it.

He was really happy with these stuff and I couldn't be more happier seeing his genuine smile. ♥♥♥

After fixing ourselves, we wore our "couple" initial tees and took lots of pictures... again. lol Here are some of my favorite snaps:

MOST FAVORITE SHOT EVER ♥ HIHIHIHIHIHI

Thereafter, we decided to take our early lunch at the famous Bag of Beans. I kept on stumbling on this restaurant while I was browsing for some good eats in Tagaytay even before our anniv.

And so by the time we got there, I was blown away by the beauty and structure of the restaurant. I really fell in love with the place. It was very serene and lovely most especially that we are positioned in their veranda where you can see the beautiful view of the Taal Lake.

The food in Bag of Beans is something to look forward to. They have big servings and pig-out food menu. Unfortunately, we weren't able to try their breakfast. Maybe we can go back again some other time? :p The taste of the food that we ordered are not that striking but it was tastefully done.

I really loved their Blueberry Cheesecake ♥♥

Little bit pricey for the food but somehow reasonable. Nevertheless, we were both happy with our experience overall. It is such a wonderful way to end our first anniversary with bursting tummies. lol

Of course, who could ever miss buying pasalubong for friends and family? probably not me. That's why we went on our way to Rowena's the popular pasalubong shops in Tagaytay.

It was really a fun-filled anniversary weekend for the both of us. Yaaay!! ☺ Indeed, Tagaytay is truly an ideal place for a quick weekend trip. It might be a simple one for some, but for us it was really special.

While throwing in a few ambient dinners can enhance the trip, this has also been a great opportunity for us to show that we could have fun in all kinds of situations. Remember that showing someone that you love them doesn't always have to mean white linen and wine glass-set tables and expensive food and drinks. Like us, we have defined ourselves as an "adventurous couple", so we have planned some activities where we don't need to get dressed up to show our ability to turn any situation into a romantic one. Because really, loving someone is all about laughing together and sharing special moments no matter where are you. ☺

HAPPY 1st ANNIVERSARY TO US, BABY! I LOVE YOU! ♥♥♥

Inhale love, exhale hate!
