You met the guy of your dreams.
You love him and he loves you back.
Perfect!!
But wait, here's the catch. He'd be leaving away from you to look for a "greener pasture" abroad.
Surprising, right??

So whether you are ready for it or not, I believe that it takes one tough heart to do it.
They say that nothing tests a relationship more than distance. It can either make or break your relationship depending on how you handle it.
In all honesty, never in my life have I thought of entering this kind of relationship. But then I told myself that if it's part of God's plan for us, then let it be.
In the time I've been away from my guy (not too long ago, by the way lol), I have learned a lot about us. I strongly believe that this LDR thing is something that every couple could benefit from. Not only does an LDR strengthen your relationship and test it, but the experience also strengthens you as an individual.
Talking about my own experience, we have both made numerous mistakes and faced many hardships in our relationship. And from those mistakes and difficulties, we kept on learning how to be strong and how to be better as individuals to make our relationship work.
While it is sad most of the times to realize that you are not physically together, there is also a way to look at this LDR in a positive light. Things like communication becoming "sacred", having happy jitters every time you hear your partner's voice, making distance a reason for both of you to grow exponentially, being independent, having an excuse to unleash your inner romantic side, and a whole lot more. Amazing, isn't?
Sustaining a long distance relationship can be very challenging and, like most relationships, needs commitment, trust, patience, and honesty to work. But just lately, I had this light-bulb moment that you don't really have to have this whole thing figured out within the first few weeks or even months of your long distance relationship. Plus, you don't have to be afraid to admit that you have fears and doubts that your relationship might not work out. To be honest, I've been there. But then I realized that those fears and doubts are nothing compared to the love that your partner is giving you each and every day of your life. ♥
So before I end this post, I would like to share to you some things only those of us in an LDR truly understand. lol Struggles like:
- Free ticket to an emotional roller-coaster ride. Some days will be fine, some days won't. Terrible days are the hardest. Days when you don't want to get out of bed or do anything meaningful — except for embracing your pain and loneliness.
- Timezone problems. Time will be your main enemy. You either have to wake up way too early or sleep very late just to talk to him. But it doesn't matter... because it's him. ♥
- Crappy internet connection while on Skype. Who wants a choppy convo and a blurry picture which keeps on freezing every time you move? ugh
- You are surrounded by happy couples. And they were all drowning you in PDA.
- Your phone or laptop becomes your lifeline. You check up your gadget every now and then just to see if he sent you a message, if he tweeted you, if he sent you a snap... or not?
- When something happens to you – either awesome or disgusting, he is the first person you want to talk to about it. But then, poof!! HE'S NOT ONLINE. Great. How could I handle these overflowing emotions? I can't contain it and it's killing me!!! lol
- Counting the days until you see each other again. It's terrible to count weeks, months, or even years before seeing him again. (Tip: You can ask for the help of a countdown app.)
- When you really miss him EVERYDAY. You honest-to-goodness miss everything about him that you just want to pick him up from your thoughts and hug him for real. It sucks. It sucks that you can't.
That last bullet tho.
As a couple, you will develop this so-called invisible and bulletproof bond. This bond will carry you through all sort of arguments and life difficulties. After all, if you survive the long distance thing, everything else from then on will seem easily manageable. Keep in mind that no matter how cruel and painful distance could be; no matter how distance always dared to take you apart; no matter how far or lingering your partner is from you; love will always keep you together.
Always remember, no great love ever came without great struggle. ☺
